Today we keep the feast of Saints Peter & Paul, Apostles. Peter, the rock, was chosen by Jesus to lead the church out from Jerusalem. St Paul Became the great defender We hear or read his words most Sundays in the second reading, These two apostles (those who were ‘sent’) are the pin-stones of the faith we try to live, and that is why so much is made of the 29 th June every year. This year the feast falls on a Sunday. The church arrays her altars in red; this is because both apostles gave their lives for their belief. They would rather have lived, but the bitter persecution of the church meant that the leaders were often put to death first. Let us give thanks today that the blood of the martyrs became the life of the church.
